The Canadian-born Andrew Robinson (1845-1924) received medical degrees from Bellevue Medical School and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Edinburgh and completed post-graduate studies in Paris, London and Vienna. He served as a surgeon in the French army during the Franco-Prussian War. Afterwards, he came to New York City and practiced as an internist, but turned to research as well, especially dermatology.
